Luke, 4

20. And when he had rolled up the book, he returned it to the minister, and he sat down. And the eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed on him.

Verses related to Luke, 4:

In Luke 4, Jesus is tempted by the devil in the desert and begins his prosecutor in Galilee. The chapter also presents the rejection of Jesus in his hometown, Nazareth, and his teaching and healing in Capernaum.

Deuteronomy 6:13 - "Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and thou shalt only serve, and shall swear by his name." This verse is quoted by Jesus in response to one of the devil's temptations, where He offers Jesus all the kingdoms of the world in exchange for worship. Jesus answers that only God must be worshiped and served.

Isaiah 61:1 - "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He sent me to heal the broken from heart to proclaim freedom to the captives and deliverance from darkness to prisoners." Jesus quotes this verse when he announces that he is the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy of a Messiah sent to free and heal.

Isaiah 42:7 - "To open the eyes of the blind, to remove the captives and the jail those who lay in darkness." This verse is also quoted by Jesus to explain his mission to free those who are spiritually captive.

Psalm 91:11-12 - "For his angels will give orders to you, that they may keep you in all your ways. They will support you in your hands, that you do not stumble into some stone." The devil quotes this verse in trying Jesus to jump from the Temple pinnacle to prove that God would save him. Jesus answers that he should not try the Lord his God.

Isaiah 53:4 - "Truly he took our sickness upon Himself and carried our pains; and we reputed him for distress, wounded to God and oppressed." This verse is quoted by Luke to explain how Jesus' healing were a way of fulfilling the messianic prophecy of Isaiah 53:4 that the Messiah would carry the diseases and pains of his people.
