34. It would be better for you to return to the city and say to Absalom, 'I will be your servant, O king! Just as I have been your father's servant in the past, I will now be your servant.' In that way you will be useful to me in thwarting the counsel of Ahitophel.

Psalm 3:1-2: "O Lord, as my adversaries have multiplied! There are many who rise against me. Many say from my soul: There is no salvation to Him in God." This Psalm, written by David, expresses his anguish before the conspiracy of Absalom and the threat he represents to his reign.

Psalm 41:9: "Even my intimate friend, whom I trusted, who ate from my bread, raised his heel against me." David regrets the betrayal of Aitofel, one of his counselors, who moved to Absalom's side and conspired against him.
