Chapter 21 of the book of Revelation talks about the New Jerusalem, the Holy City of God that descends from heaven. He describes the beauty and glory of this eternal city, where there will be no more pain, death or sadness. The following verses were selected for their relationship with the topics addressed in this chapter.
Isaiah 65:17: "For behold, I create new heavens and new earth; and there will be no memory of past things, they will no longer remember." This verse talks about the creation of new heavens and new earth, which is a theme similar to the new heaven and the new earth mentioned in Revelation 21:1.
2 Peter 3:13: "But according to his promise, we expect new heavens and new earth, in which justice dwells." This verse also talks about the creation of new heavens and new earth and mentions justice that dwells there, as well as Revelation 21:27 mentions that nothing unclean will enter New Jerusalem.
Matthew 5:8: "Blessed are the clean from the heart, because it will see God." This verse relates to Revelation 21:3, which talks about God's dwelling with men in New Jerusalem. Purity of heart is a condition to see God.
Isaiah 25:8: "It shall annihilate death forever, and thus wipe the Lord God the tears of all faces, and shall take away the reproach of his people from all the earth; for the Lord said." This verse talks about the elimination of death and suffering, a common theme in Revelation 21:4, which mentions the absence of death, mourning, weeping and pain in the New Jerusalem.
Hebrews 12:22-24: "But you have come to Mount Zion, and the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to the many thousands of angels; the universal assembly and church of the firstborn, who are inscribed in heaven, and to God , the judge of all, and to the spirits of the perfected righteous; and Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and the blood of sprinkling, who speaks better than that of Abel. " This verse relates to Revelation 21:2, which talks about the descent of the New Jerusalem from heaven. Both describe the heavenly city of God and the dwelling of the saints.
