25. And David said to the messenger: “You shall say these things to Joab: ‘Do not let this matter dishearten you. For varied are the events of war. Now this one, and now that one, is consumed by the sword. Encourage your warriors against the city and exhort them, so that you may destroy it.’ ”

Chapter 11 of the book of 2 Samuel reports the fall of King David, who sinned as he got involved with Bathsheba, wife of Uriah, one of his soldiers. 2 Samuel 12:24-25: "And he comforted Bathsheba, wife of Uriah, for her husband and took her for his wife; she gave him a son, but the Lord did not allow him to live. And gave him a name: Solomon. And the Lord loved him. " David house with Bathsheba and their son, Solomon, becomes the future king of Israel.

2 Samuel 12:26-27: "Joab jumped against Rabá of the sons of Ammon and took the royal city. Then Joab sent messengers to David, saying: I fought against Rabá and took the waters of the city." The chapter ends with Joab by winning the battle against Rabá, a victory that David would probably have led if he had not sinned.
