Ezra 1 reports the restoration of the temple in Jerusalem after the Babylonian Captivity. The chapter describes as Cyrus, king of Persia, issued a decree allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. The chapter also describes how Cyrus returned the sacred utensils of the temple that had been looted by the Babylonians.
2 Chronicles 36:23: "Thus says Cyrus, king of Persia: The Lord God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and in charge of building me a house in Jerusalem, who is in Judah. Your people? The Lord your God be with Him, and go up. " This verse describes as Cyrus, as an instrument of God, allowed the Jews to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.
Isaiah 44:28: "Who says of Cyrus, He is my pastor, and will fulfill all that pleases me, saying to Jerusalem, you will be built; and the temple: You shall be founded." This verse prophesies the restoration of Jerusalem and the reconstruction of the temple by King Ciro, who is called the pastor of God's people.
Esdras 6:14: "And the elders of the Jews were building and thriving, according to the prophecy of the prophet Haggai and of Zechariah, the son of Ido. They built and ended, by order of the God of Israel, and by order of Cyrus, and of Darius, and of Darius, , and from Artaxerxes, kings of Persia. " This verse highlights the importance of the prophecies of the Prophets Agee and Zechariah, who encouraged the Jews to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.
Ageu 1:8: "I climbed to the mount, and brought wood, and build the house; and I will please me, and be glorified, says the Lord." This verse is a message from Haggai to the people of Judah, urging them to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem and promising God's approval if they do it.
Ageu 2:9: "The glory of this last house will be greater than that of the first, says the Lord of hosts, and in this place I will give peace, says the Lord of hosts." This verse prophesies that the glory of the rebuilt temple will be greater than that of the original temple and that God will grant peace to the people who worship him.
