1 Kings 1 deals with David's succession to the throne of Israel. When David is already old and debilitated, Adonias, his eldest son, tries to usurp the throne for himself. From the Lord spoke for me, and his word is in my mouth. " These verses show David's divine authority as king of Israel and, therefore, the importance of his choice of successor in 1 Kings 1.
