8. Yet truly, Zadok, the priest, and Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada, and Nathan, the prophet, and Shimei and Rei, and the mature men of the army of David were not with Adonijah.

From the Lord spoke for me, and his word is in my mouth. " These verses show David's divine authority as king of Israel and, therefore, the importance of his choice of successor in 1 Kings 1.
