16. He speaks of these things in all his letters. There are, however, some points in them that are difficult to understand, which people who are ignorant and immature in their faith twist, as they do with the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.

Chapter 3 of 2 Peter deals with the return of Jesus Christ and the destruction of the world by fire. Peter urges Christians to live godly and eagerly await the return of Christ. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in the chapter:

Matthew 24:36: "But about that day and time no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." This verse talks about the uncertainty of the date of Christ's return, which corroborates Peter's teaching in 2 Peter 3:10 about the coming of the Lord "as a thief."

Hebrews 10:27: "But a terrible expectation of judgment and a burning fire that will devour the opponents." The author of Hebrews talks about the punishment of the wicked on the day of judgment, a theme that is also addressed by Peter in 2 Peter 3:7.

James 5:7-8: "He thirsts, brothers, patients until the coming of the Lord.
