22. Only herein will the men consent unto us for to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they [are] circumcised.

Genesis 34 tells the story of Diná, daughter of Jacob, who is raped by a prince of a neighboring city named Shechem. Diná's brothers, outraged by the incident, plan a revenge against the city of Simém. They deceive the men of Shem and kill them all. Proverbs 31:8-9 - "Open your mouth in favor of the mute, for the right of all the helpless. Open your mouth, judge, and do justice to the poor and the needy."
