38. After this Joseph of Arimathe'a, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him leave. So he came and took away his body.

St. John 19 reports the crucifixion of Jesus. The chapter describes in detail the scene of the condemnation of Jesus by Pilate, his flagellation and coronation of thorns, the walk to the golgota, the crucifixion and, finally, the death of Jesus.
