In Luke 4, Jesus is tempted by the devil in the desert and begins his prosecutor in Galilee. The chapter also presents the rejection of Jesus in his hometown, Nazareth, and his teaching and healing in Capernaum.

The devil quotes this verse in trying Jesus to jump from the Temple pinnacle to prove that God would save him. Jesus answers that he should not try the Lord his God.

Isaiah 53:4 - "Truly he took our sickness upon Himself and carried our pains; and we reputed him for distress, wounded to God and oppressed." This verse is quoted by Luke to explain how Jesus' healing were a way of fulfilling the messianic prophecy of Isaiah 53:4 that the Messiah would carry the diseases and pains of his people.
