However, the prophet Nathan and Bathsheba, Solomon's mother, interfere to ensure that the successor chosen by David is Solomon, the youngest son. Proverbs 20:29: "The glory of young people is their strength; and the beauty of the old are the babies." This verse highlights the physical weakness that advanced age can bring, as is the case of David in 1 Kings 1.
