Psalm 107 is a hymn of thanks to God for his kindness and mercy to rescue those who call for help in situations of distress. The psalmist describes four situations where people call for help: dangers in the desert, prison, illness and storm at sea. In each situation, the people cry out for help and God rescues them. Isaiah 61:1: "The Spirit of the Sovereign, the Lord, is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He sent me to take care of those who have a broken heart, announce freedom to captives and liberation from darkness to prisoners. Psalm 146:7-8: "He does justice to the oppressed and give bread to the hungry. The Lord frees the prisoners." This verse talks about God releasing those who are arrested, as described in the imprisonment situation in Psalm 107.
