1 Kings 19 tells Elijah's story after having fled to the desert, tired and afraid of Queen Jezebel, who wanted to kill him. In this chapter, Elijah has an experience with God, listening to his voice in a "soft whisper." Moreover, God instructs Elijah to anoint a new king to Israel and a new prophet to succeed him. 2 Kings 2:9: "And it happened that if they have passed, Elijah said to Elisha, Ask me what you want to do to you before it is taken from you. And Elisha said, I ask you that there is a double portion of yours Spirit upon me. " This verse shows how God was preparing Elisha to succeed Elijah as a prophet in Israel.
