2. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do [to me], and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

1 Kings 19 tells Elijah's story after having fled to the desert, tired and afraid of Queen Jezebel, who wanted to kill him. In this chapter, Elijah has an experience with God, listening to his voice in a "soft whisper." Moreover, God instructs Elijah to anoint a new king to Israel and a new prophet to succeed him. Psalm 46:10: "Issoid, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the Gentiles; I will be exalted upon the earth." 2 Timothy 1:7: "For God has not given us the spirit of cowardice, but of power, love and moderation." Elijah may have felt cowardly and afraid, but this verse shows us that God has given us a spirit of power and love, and that we can be brave through His strength.

2 Kings 2:9: "And it happened that if they have passed, Elijah said to Elisha, Ask me what you want to do to you before it is taken from you. And Elisha said, I ask you that there is a double portion of yours Spirit upon me. " This verse shows how God was preparing Elisha to succeed Elijah as a prophet in Israel.
