1. Now when Jesus had finished these sayings, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan;

St. Matthew 19 presents Jesus' teachings of divorce, wealth and salvation. Jesus talks about how divorce was not in God's original plans, how difficult it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven, and how to follow Jesus requires sacrifices and renunciations. " This verse is quoted by Jesus in Matthew 19:29, when He speaks of the sacrifices that must be made to follow Jesus and how great the reward is.

Matthew 5:32: "But I say unto you that everyone who divorces his wife except because of infidelity, he exposes her to become adulterous; and the one who marries the divorced woman commits adultery." In Matthew 19:3-9, Jesus talks about divorce and how it was not in God's original plans.

Matthew 19:21: "Jesus said to Him, 'If you want to be perfect, go, sell your goods, give it to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven; then come and follow me.'" This verse shows how to follow Jesus demands Sacrifices and renunciations, as is also highlighted in Matthew 19:16-22, when Jesus speaks to the rich young man.
