1 Kings 1 deals with David's succession to the throne of Israel. When David is already old and debilitated, Adonias, his eldest son, tries to usurp the throne for himself. However, the prophet Nathan and Bathsheba, Solomon's mother, interfere to ensure that the successor chosen by David is Solomon, the youngest son.
