29. Jonathan answered Saul, 'David insistently asked me for permission to go to Bethlehem. "Please let me go," he said, "for we are holding the clan sacrifice in the town and my brothers have ordered me to attend. So now, if I enjoy your favour, let me get away and see my brothers." That is why he has not come to the king's table.'

Chapter 20 of 1 Samuel narrates the continuation of the relationship between David and Jonathan, son of King Saul. In this chapter, Jonathan pledges to help David escape his father's wrath and they make a friendship pact. Proverbs 27:6: "Wounds made by the friend are faithful, but kisses from the enemy are misleading." Saul proves to be an unfaithful friend, while pretending friendship and is friendly to David, he secretly desires his death.

Psalm 27:1: "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom will I fear? Is the Lord the fortress of my life; whose I will fear me?" David trusts God to protect him against Saul's threats and maintains his faith unshakable, even in the midst of persecution and danger.
