Isaiah, 31

Christian Community Bible

1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who pin their hopes on cavalry, putting their trust in chariots because they are many, relying on horsemen because they are strong. Why did they not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult Yahweh?

2 And yet he is very wise, and from him disaster will come. He does not go back on his word; he will rise against the evildoers, and cut off the help the wicked waited for.

3 The Egyptians are men, not God; their horses are flesh, not spirit. When Yahweh stretches forth his hand, the helper and the one he helped will fall and perish together.

4 For thus the Lord has spoken: Just as a lion or a lion cub growls over its prey and is neither frightened nor disturbed by the shouts of the shepherd, so will Yahweh Sabaoth descend to fight on Mount Zion.

5 Like birds that hover, so will Yahweh Sabaoth shield Jerusalem: he will protect and deliver, rescue and save.

6 Return, O children of Israel, to him you have so wickedly betrayed.

7 On that day each one of you will throw away the idols of silver and gold that his sinful hands have made.

8 Assyria will fall by a sword not wielded by a man. They will be devoured by a sword not held by a mortal. They will flee before the sword, their young men will be captured and put to forced labor.

9 They will desert their post and the officers, in terror, will abandon the standard." It is Yahweh who speaks, whose fire is in Zion and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

Versículos relacionados com Isaiah, 31:

Isaiah 31 talks about the confidence of the children of Israel in alliances with other peoples and not in God, and the consequence of it. The chapter warns that the Lord is powerful to save and that the Israelites must rely on Him rather than rely on human alliances. Below are five verses related to the topics addressed in Isaiah 31:

Psalm 20:7 - "Some trust cars, some in horses; we, we will mention the name of the Lord our God." This verse highlights the importance of trust in God rather than trusting human forces, as is Isaiah 31.

Proverbs 21:31 - "The horse prepares for battle day, but victory comes from the Lord." Like Isaiah 31, this verse highlights the importance of trusting God for victory rather than trusting human forces.

Jeremiah 17:5-6 - "Thus saith the Lord: Damn the man who trusts in man, and makes the flesh his arm, and separate his heart of the Lord! For it will be like the lonely shrub in the wilderness, and will not see when GOOD COMES; Before, it will live in the dry places of the desert, in the salted and uninhabitable earth. " This verse warns against trusting men and flesh instead of trusting God.

Hosea 14:3 - "Assyria will not save us; we will not ride in horses, and to the work of our hands we no longer say: You are our God; for in you the orphan reaches mercy." This verse highlights the importance of trusting God rather than relying on human alliances.

Zechariah 4:6 - "Not by force or violence, but by my spirit, says the Lord of hosts." This verse highlights the importance of trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit rather than relying on human forces, just as Isaiah 31 warns against trusting human alliances.
