18. And now here is Adonijah king, and you, my lord king, knowing nothing about it!

1 Kings 1 deals with David's succession to the throne of Israel. When David is already old and debilitated, Adonias, his eldest son, tries to usurp the throne for himself. 1 Chronicles 22:9: "Behold, a Son shall be born to you, who will be a man of rest; for I will give him rest of all his enemies around; for Solomon will be his name, and peace and peace I will give Israel in his days. From the Lord spoke for me, and his word is in my mouth. " These verses show David's divine authority as king of Israel and, therefore, the importance of his choice of successor in 1 Kings 1.
