27. Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father, is this: coming to the help of orphans and widows in their hardships, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world.

St. James Chapter 1 deals with perseverance in trial and the importance of listening and practicing the Word of God. To provide five verses related to the topics covered in this chapter, we will exclude St. James's verses.

Romans 5:3-4: "Not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, because we know that tribulation produces perseverance; perseverance, an approved character; and the approved character, hope." This verse shows that perseverance in trial produces a character approved by God and, finally, hope.

John 13:17: "You know these things, blessed you are if you practice them." This verse emphasizes the importance of practicing what is known, not just listening and knowing the Word of God.
