Ecclesiastes, 2

7. I bought male and female slaves, and had slaves who were born in my house; I had also great possessions of herds and flocks, more than any who had been before me in Jerusalem.

Philippians 4:11-12: "I do not say this as by necessity, because I have learned to content with what I have. " The author of Ecclesiastes tried to fill his inner emptiness with material goods and pleasures, but this verse points out that true happiness comes from contentment with what one has.

Romans 12:2: "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but become the renewal of your mind, so that they are able to experience and prove the good, pleasant and perfect will of God." The author of Ecclesiastes realized that following the standards of the world and seeking happiness in worldly pleasures is futile, this verse points to the need for a renewal of mind to find true happiness.
