Chapter 1 of Haggai begins with a rebuke of God to the people of Judah for neglecting the reconstruction of the temple while working in their own homes and businesses. The prophet urges the people to turn their attention to the temple and the service of God, promising that God's blessing will come upon them. Malachi 3:10: "Bring the whole tithing to the temple warehouse, so that there may be food in my house. Put me to the test," says the Lord of the armies, "and see if I won't open the heaven floodgates and spill over You so many blessings that you will have nowhere to keep them.
