Nehemiah 7 reports the organization of the people after the reconstruction of the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah is in charge of selecting leaders and establishing a genealogical record of the people who returned from Babylonian exile. He names Hanani and Hananias to supervise the city and the gates, and also designates guards to protect the city. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in Nehemiah 7:

Nehemiah 7:5: "And my God put in my heart together the nobles, the officers, and the people so that they could be recorded by genealogy." Nehemiah begins the process of genealogical registration of the people who returned from exile.

Ezra 2:59-60: "These were the ones who climbed Tel-Melá, Tel-Harsá, Cherub, Adom and Imer, but could not prove that their families and their descendants were from Israel: descendants of Delaías, the children of Tobias and the descendants of Neco. Nehemiah 7:3: "And I said unto them, Do not open the doors of Jerusalem until the sun is hot, and while the porters are still there, lock the doors and lock them while they are still in Guard. I named some of Jerusalem's inhabitants as guards and also attribute to each one a section of the wall to repair. " Nehemiah names guards to protect the city and designates sections of the wall to be repaired by each of them.
