Psalm 61 is a Psalm of David in which he cries to God for help and protection. David feels downcast and distant from God, but trusts his mercy and power to help him overcome his problems and strengthen him. He asks God to lead him to the highest rock and to protect him under his wings. Psalms 31:3: "For you are my rock and my fortress; so, for the sake of your name, guide me and forward me." This verse shows that David trusts God as his rock and fortress, and asks his orientation.

Psalm 46:1: "God is our refuge and fortress, a good help in anguish." This verse presents God as a refuge and fortress for those who need help in times of anguish, which is exactly what David seeks in Psalm 61.
