18. and on the first day of the second month they called together the whole community. The sons of Israel listed their names according to their clans and families, and one by one the names of all men of twenty years and over were recorded and counted.
Chapter 1 of the Numbers Book describes the Census of Men of Israel who were able to fight in war. The purpose of this census was to determine how many men were in each tribe that were in a military age and therefore would be eligible to fight for the nation of Israel.
