36. And she said unto him, My father, [if] thou hast opened thy mouth unto the LORD, do to me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth; forasmuch as the LORD hath taken vengeance for thee of thine enemies, [even] of the children of Ammon.

Chapter 11 of the Judges Book tells the story of Jephtha, a brave warrior who was chosen as leader of his people in a time of conflict and oppression. Jephtter makes a vow to the Lord, promising that if he overcomes the battle against the Ammonites, he will sacrifice the first person who leaves his home to find him. Unfortunately, this person ends up being his own daughter, and Jephtter finds himself facing a terrible choice.
