12. While Absalom was offering the sacrifices, he sent for Ahitophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city Giloh. Meantime, the conspiracy grew strong and the number of people with Absalom kept increasing.

Psalm 41:9: "Even my intimate friend, whom I trusted, who ate from my bread, raised his heel against me." David regrets the betrayal of Aitofel, one of his counselors, who moved to Absalom's side and conspired against him.

Psalm 55:12-14: "Because it was not an enemy that broke me; then I would have endured it; it was not what I hated me that I was amusing against me, because I would have hidden me; Guide and my inner friend.
