39. You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness to me;

John 5:46-47: "If you grew up in Moses, they would believe me, for he wrote about me. But if they don't believe in his writings, how will they believe what I say?" Jesus talks about how his message is in accordance with Scripture and that those who do not believe in his words are not really following the teachings of Moses and the prophets.
