Chapter 13 of the Judges Book tells the story of Samson's birth. An angel of the Lord appeared to the wife of Manoá, who was barren, and announced that she would give birth to a son who would be consecrated to God from the womb and would begin to free Israel from the yoke of the Philistines. After that, the angel is gone and Manoá and his wife acknowledged that they had seen God Himself.

" This verse speaks of God's mercy by saving someone who was on the brink of death, just as Samson was chosen by God before he was even born.
