1. But after a time of three years, Judas and those who were with him realized that Demetrius of Seleucus had gone up to strategic places with a very strong multitude and a navy at the port of Tripoli,

In 2 Maccabees 14, Judas Macabeu and his men plan a battle against Nicanor and his soldiers. During this chapter we see Judas's strategy and his confidence in God to obtain victory. The verses selected below talk about courage in battle, the importance of prayer and trust in God for victory.

1 Samuel 17:47: "And all this congregation shall know that the Lord saves, not a sword, nor with a spear; for the Lord is war, and He shall surrender to us in our hand."
