4. went to king Demetrius in the one hundred and fiftieth year, offering to him a crown of gold, and a palm, and beyond these, some branches that seemed to belong to the temple. And, indeed, on that day, he was silent.

In 2 Maccabees 14, Judas Macabeu and his men plan a battle against Nicanor and his soldiers. During this chapter we see Judas's strategy and his confidence in God to obtain victory. The verses selected below talk about courage in battle, the importance of prayer and trust in God for victory.

1 Samuel 17:47: "And all this congregation shall know that the Lord saves, not a sword, nor with a spear; for the Lord is war, and He shall surrender to us in our hand." This verse talks about the importance of recognizing that God is the only one who can give us victory, even in a physical battle.
